Enlightenment

That is what has been brought by the recent release of 2 more Sketchbook chapters! First of all, we get to know that Ooba also dreams dreams as weird as Hazuki or Natsumi:

Second of all, Daichi is still trying to teach Kate correct pronunciation but somehow they end up being tongue-twisters for them:

We are also shown that opening a candy wrapper is not as easy as it looks and I agree with that. It has happened too many time to me too to ignore laughing at that:

Finally, the enlightening bit… I almost fainted after seeing Juju-senpai’s fully open eyes for the first time:

  1. Ditto what you said about the difficulty of opening candy wrappers sometimes. At least Sora did not end up opening it wrong and having it shoot out across the floor.

Maybe Juju finally opened her eyes because she was tired of that sleeping gag. This was the second time when Kobako has used it, right? I guess another possibility is that she was just following in the footsteps of the president there.

By the way, did you understand the philosophical significance of that strip? I had no clue, but I figure you probably would be way better at puzzling that out than I would.

Speaking of Ooba's weirdly meta dream, what do you imagine a Kate or Kuga dream would be like?

  2. I think it's the first time Juju has opened her eyes in manga. There's a picture of hers with half-open eyes on the anime website, though. Hehe... I don't think that's true about Juju as it was shown in one strip that she doesn't get why others think she's similar to the president!

I didn't think of any philosophical significance but if I have to think of one, I would say this strip tells: "Don't push your luck by repeating same joke(s) around (seemingly) nice people!" :) What did you understand from it?

Wasn't there a strip about Kate's dream? I guess she would dream about speaking perfect Japanese and surprising Daichi or having bad English and waking up in horror! I can't imagine Kuga's dreamworld to be less weird than her real life but it would surely be amazing to witness.

Do you indulge in reading or writing (or just thinking) fan-fiction?

  3. It seems like there was another strip when Juju actually did fall asleep a few volumes back. So maybe that was kind of the exact opposite of this joke or something. As far as the philosophy goes, I think your conclusion sounds alright.

Maybe there was some comic about Kate dreaming. I cannot remember one, but I think you are probably spot on about what that kind of strip would entail. Speaking of which, do you ever wonder how Kobako would imagine Kate's family?

Evidently Kuga's dreams must be pretty engrossing considering the fact that she once slept through falling down a flight of stairs. At least that was my impression of that strip (from a while ago). I could be completely wrong, since what I just said makes very little sense. Do you have a different theory about that?

Nah, I guess I figure that sort of stuff (fan-fiction) is too out there for me. Are you into it?

  5. Ya, I remembered that 'exact opposite' strip too while reading this one, which makes this strip more funny.

The one thing I find weird about this manga is that there is no mention of the character's parents even though their houses are shown once in a while... So I stopped thinking about that part very early on, hehe!

I think she may have been hurt a bit due to the fall so tried to 'rest' after the fall. Or maybe she was sleepy that led to her fall! That was not made clear in that strip... so your understanding is as good as mine.

No, I also am not a huge fan of fan-fiction.
